Wine Club

Before I opened Wine at Five I researched a bunch of retail wine clubs. I wanted to see what they did and how they did it so that I could figure out a better way of doing it. I have to admit, I wasn't impressed by what I saw. In many cases the wine club was a selection of wines that had been hanging around the store for a bit too long and the wine club was an easy ‘trash bin’. Customers were paying for stuff that walk in customers had rejected. In many cases all you got was a few bottles of wine and a bill. Few of the clubs included any literature about the wines and if they did I soon realized that they were a cut and paste job from some web site they had found. So it wasn't difficult, after a few passes, to figure out a better way of providing a wine enthusiast with something different and exciting.

Wine at Five’s Four Bottle Wine Club offers members 3 bottles of red and 1 bottle of white wine every month. And every month we choose a different theme to introduce to you. In the past we have looked at various wine regions that are so off the beaten track many people don’t even know which country they are from. We have sourced great wines from Mediterranean islands and devoted a month to the wines of Mallorca and Corsica, Sicily and Sardinia. We have investigated the truth behind Zinfandel and Primitivo. We have tasted the difference between pinot noirs from Oregon, California and Burgundy and introduced members to the “other” Beaujolais wines – not that disgusting stuff that comes over once a year in November. And included in each month’s wine box is a six page color brochure that describes the ‘theme’ of the month, the tasting notes on each wine, and finally a recipe section that pairs an easy to make dish with each of the wines.

Pricing: Invariably the value of each month’s wine selection hovers around $85 but the cost to our members is $75 fixed, per month (excluding taxes). For that you get 4 bottles of wine and the six page brochure including the recipes and the literature. The minimum length of membership is 3 months.
